Hebden Bridge Dry Dock is a traditional ‘Graving Dock’ for canal boats.
It was created at a former industrial site in approximately 1984 and can
accommodate flat bottomed boats up to 65’ by 12’ although it is
better suited for narrowboats.
The word 'graving' is an obsolete nautical term for the
scraping, cleaning, painting, or tarring of an underwater body,
a process now more familiarly called ‘blacking’.
